Taiwan Farmer’s Almanac: Illustrations of the Poisonous Food Combinations

The original ancient illustrations appeared in Taiwan as early as the 19th century, they were seen as superstition but aimed to teach us what food combinations can cause poisoning and what the antidote would be. They were commonly found on the back cover of one of the most read books in Taiwan, The Farmer’s Almanac.

This project by artist Chiao Yu Chen attempts to recreate the illustrations, not to diminish the original artwork, but to preserve its original content for generations to come.
